Etruscomix: Un viaggio tra Segno e Memoria

Data evento 07/03/2026 - 04/10/2026

Locandina Etruscomix

From 7 March to 4 October 2026, the Museo Civico per la Preistoria del Monte Cetona hosts Etruscomix. Un viaggio tra segno e memoria, an exhibition that brings into dialogue ancient Etruria and the language of contemporary comics.

The initiative is part of the programme of celebrations marking forty years since the The Etruscans 85–25 project, promoted by the Region of Tuscany, which marked a turning point in the promotion and public reinterpretation of Etruscan civilisation. Today, four decades later, Etruscomix reopens that cultural season with a new perspective, entrusted to drawing, graphic storytelling, and the power of visual imagination.

A journey between archaeology and storytelling

The exhibition originates from the project “Etruscomix. L’Etruria in Fumetti”, created in 2009 by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici dell’Etruria Meridionale and coordinated by Napoli COMICON. That year, the collective exhibition hosted at the Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia in Rome represented an almost pioneering challenge: to bring the millennia-old artefacts of a fascinating civilisation into dialogue with the contemporary sensibility of the “Ninth Art”.

At the time, COMICON chose to act as a precursor, betting on a group of young talents—now established authors on the international scene—such as Francesco Cattani, Marino Neri, Paolo Parisi, Michele Petrucci, Alessandro Rak, and Claudio Stassi, with the prestigious contribution and signature of the master Milo Manara. These artists were invited to immerse themselves in the symbolic places of Etruscan civilisation, including the necropolises of Cerveteri and Tarquinia, in order to convey through their drawings impressions, visions, and narratives capable of bringing back to life the daily and sacred dimensions of an ancient people.

Today the project is revisited with a renewed maturity and with a new exhibition design, finding in the Museum of Cetona—guardian of the earliest traces of human settlement in this territory, from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age—the ideal setting for a reflection on our shared roots.

A project built on collaboration

Etruscomix arises within the framework of the initiatives connected with the renewed The Etruscans 85–25 project, involving regional institutions and cultural partners. The exhibition strengthens the role of the Museo Civico per la Preistoria del Monte Cetona as a centre for research, dissemination, and cultural experimentation within the territory of the Valdichiana.

With this exhibition, Cetona becomes a stop along a broader route dedicated to the rediscovery and enhancement of Etruscan identity, between historical memory and contemporary creativity.
